Great games guys, I really enjoyed these missions, Chagear, can I get the rules so I can run them in a future Combat patrol tourney?
I had some good games and not so good games. My list:
Sternguard Veteran Squad
-2 Combi Plasmaguns
Razorback
Scout Squad
-4 Shotguns
A couple things I may have done differently if I had known how the missions would go. I'd have taken 4 Sniper Rifles instead, or possibly even 5. I wanted to keep my squads movable and flexable. I think I made a good choice though with the shotguns as assault 2 strength 4 is a decent amount of shots. The only problem is their damned BS 3! The Sternguard consistantly failed at hitting. With BS 4 I was rolling under average all day. I'm not a superstisious (sp?) person, but I think I shouldn't use the dice I use for Warmachine to play Warhammer 40k LOL.
Game one was a good match up against Roy with his Daemon force. There was a snafu during turn 3 which was a huge game changer, and Roy you owe me big for that one brother. Needless to say, everyone should know their lists backwards and forwards, especially in such a small points based game. Study your codices gents, these are your armies and rules mistakes take away from the game. Loss one for the Ultra Marine force.
Game two was a nail biter against Dupree's Crisis force. He ran a good mix of anti vehicle and anti troop suits. The missle pod/burst cannon mix is the best mix for any crisis suit and he augmented it with some hard wired targeting arrays. Good choices, and a great deep strike brought down my VIP and got him a win!
Game three saw the Ultramarines face their old nemesis. Chaos Marines! These particular CSM's being of the Slaanesh variety, Marcus deployed in his Rhino (the only other vehicle in the tournament besides my Razor). We played a objective game in which the UM's were able to take a majority of the objectives. Amazingly the Rhino got immobilized and was able to roll a repair roll! From what I hear it was the second time he'd done so in the tourney. Good game Marcus. Ultramarines win one.
Game 4 was against Grey Knights, but I can't remember the players name for the life of me. Probably because he's never been on the forums. Great guy and he ran a tough force of 4 Paladin Knights. This was a very scary unit, but I was lucky enough to roll a win for holding the objective. I put it with my scouts and infiltrated them on the complete opposite side of the board. I held up there until about turn 4 and then jumped in the Razorback. I was able to do one wound on a Paladin, and kept the objective for the win. Ultramarines win two.
Game 5 was against Roy again. It was a take and hold mission with one objective. I set up the scouts next to the objective and Razorback in my deployment zone. Flamers won the game for him. I made a tactical mistake by not charging the flamers and didn't make the charge against the screamers with the Scouts, which in the long run decided my fate. Loss three for the Sons of Ultramar.
All in all it was a good day, I had fun on most of the missions, which were different and really fun with the random mission special rules. I'd like to run a tournament with the same rules but a few more points, say 400 or so.
Any other thoughts?
