For those of you who may not know I have been a member of the Press Gang since 2003. Which means more than many I am well aware of the growth of PP from its beginnings from its first offering of the RPG to the initial release of warmachine.
One of the concerns usually expressed to me by store owners was that on some occasions it was hard to get certain models.And while that was frustrating to them from a retailer stand point they could appreciate that Privateer Press was a company that is constantly growing, and that aside from the plastics made abroad their foundry work is all in house and that foundry runs pretty much 24 hours a day 7 days a week to get you your miniatures.
The other main point they liked was that Privateer Press isn’t the type of company who simply hires a bunch of people, trains them up to work through a backlog of orders and then lays them off when things slow down a bit. summer has always been the busy season for Privateer as the conventions they attend bring in new players and then those players go home and show the game to their buddies and then they buy in. So I was quite happy when Privateer Press anounced the cored order list.
Bellow is an excerpt from Privateer Press’s director of Business will Shick:
The core list was designed in a joint effort between Privateer Press’ development and retail support departments. The items included represent popular model choices for both new and existing players and showcase the core essence of each faction. Because WARMACHINE and HORDES are constantly evolving games, we will continually evaluate this list and update it when necessary based on retailer and player feedback to ensure the best possible core product remains consistently in stock for retailers and players.
As we continue to aggressively expand our production capabilities the wait time for items not on the core list will shorten until all items return to our pre–Mk II release turnaround times. Until then, distributors should expect the following approximate lead times:
Core Model Order List POs will ship within 2 weeks.
WARMACHINE and HORDES books and accessories will ship within 2–4 weeks.
WARMACHINE and HORDES metal models not on the core list will ship within 6-8 weeks.

With the Cygnar List we see some solid core elements many of which are Iconic units for the cygnaran military force and allow for a good variety of forces to be built and in some cases are units people own a couple of.

With the Menoth list we see the continuation of Iconic units with the Exemplars, and Temple flame guard and the choir of Menoth. Making sure these units are in stock for new players looking at Menoth is pretty essential especially the choir.

With Khador the players have Ironfang Pikeman and The Mano-War units along side old favourites like the widow maker unit. considering the Majority of Khador’s models are tough hitting and hard to kill everything on this is a solid choice for a new player looking to get the feel of their army.

Cryx is my personal faction of choice and I can’t say they have gone wrong with this list either. considering the nature of our army the models included on this list fit well not only with the casters here but many of our others as well. For a player who is getting his feet wet these are all things that will be seen in one list or another.

Mercenaries are likely the hardest to make a core list for but they have done a good job here to make sure that not only are there the models needed to run either a four star syndicate list or a llaelese resistance force. The other benefit of this core list is they are some good models in may cases to add to your own core faction
While I am sure many people would have liked to see more or other personal favourites on this core list it is good to know what is on them and in my opinion for the most part there are no corner case units that are only taken in some theme lists on them. Secondly the fact we now know how long it takes for these models and models not on this list to reach our distributors it means players can plan ahead, save some money and make sure to buy them from the FLGS to make sure they keep having a nice place to play their games.
