i do. mostly on flying models/vehicles to give them a more steady base than the gw flying stem. i hate those things!! large plastic or metal models do well if you plan on exchanging bits or to make them easier to store. once your individual bits are assemled you can drill holes slightly smaller than the magent then glue them in. that way you can make them fluch with the model. smaller models its not always very practicle to do it.
another way to use magnets that i found very useful has to do with your bases. on round 25mm bases you can glue a 1" washer to them. this does 2 things. one it lowers the center of gravity on the models so they dont tip over so easily and two you can put strip magnets (the cheep ones in hobby/craft stores) on your diplay board/try and they wont slide all over the place! now the strip magnets aren't strong enough to turn your board upside down it just keeps them from sliding off while you move around. i found this really usefull at last years Seattle GT.
oh another tip. on your models if you do magnet to magnet make sure you dry fit test them and get the polarity right or your bits wont stay together!! i've dont that! its a real pain to fix.

This will happen to you at least once if you plan on doing magnet work. Trust me. I did a whole 5000 point Space Wolf army completely magnetized with all weapon options. It will take time and patience. Grip did say one thing ensure you check for polarity. That is the first rule and never forget it. I still do some minor magnet work, mainly in vechiles and some special character models that need multiple options. There was a good article on Dakka I think, but I don't remember the link at this time. I use 1/36 x 1/8 Size magnets almost exclusively, but will be doing some work in the future that will require some larger magnets. I'd suggest www.amazingmagnets.com if you're planning on ordering. They sell Rare Earth Magnets, the strongest and longest lasting on the planet. Plus, they ship to FPO/APO.

Not worth the effort, you'd have to switch out arms, guns and back packs in the case of the burnas. You're better off getting dedicated units in the Burna/Loota case. Ork Vehicles don't really need magnetization for the most part.

You'll need bigger sized magnets for Kanz and Dredds. I tried using one of the smaller RE magnets on my Kanz and the arm kept falling off. I just ended up gluing it on in the end. Then again I have yet to use my Kanz in a game yet, waiting for 6 more so I can make a Stompy list.
Unless you really like the model, tactically a Deff Dread isn't worth the points you have to pour into it to make it survivable. Orks aren't built to last for the most part so you can get 3 Kanz for the same cost of 1 Deff Dread. Of course it's your army, if you like the Deff Dread then by all means go for it.
