Taken from the Freeboota website on 40kradio.com
I went to a Planetstrike Preview at my local GW store yesterday evening.
Interestingly enough, the guy hadnt much to say about Planetstrike itself, since in itself its not that much different from a normal 40k game and spent most of the time on talking about the new 40k related releases.
Here is what he had to say:
- Planetside is designed for forces of about 2500 - 3000 points
- Attacker and defender roles get decided before the game
- Attacker has to take 1 HQ, on the rest of the force organisation chart he
gets the free choice; besides the normal stuff he can include up to 3 hq, 6
elite and 6 assault choices.
- Defender has to take 1 HQ and 2 Troop choices, on the rest of the force
organisation chart he gets the free choice, besides the normal stuff he can
include up to 6 support choices.
- The defender sets up all the terrain on the table, including any amount
defenses he likes + weapon emplacements.
- At the start of the game the attackers gets to place D6 barrage templates
on terrain features of his choice, representing orbital bombardment. After a
normal scatter roll everthing under the template is destroyed and the terrain
is replaced with a crater about the size of the destoyed terrain piece.
- All the attackers infantry models can arrive via deep strike in the newly
placed craters, so the get some cover.
- Attacker reinforcements can arrive on the 3 table edges that arent the
defenders edge.
And some special rules metioned:
- The imperial bastion can have a kind of sally port. The port is placed
within 18" of the bastion, troops inside the bastion can leave it via this port
and start their normal turn from this spot (charging included)
This one-way only - no one gets enter the bastion through the port.
- The bastion can be upgraded with a communication array. The array confers
a re-roll to the defenders reserve rolls (cummulative with other stuff the
defender might have).
A bastion with a communication array counts an objective for the attacker.
He has to either capture or destroy it. The bastion has an armor value of 14 and can be upgraded to ignore the first destroyed result.
- The skyshield landing pad can be opened and closed via 4 buttons in the
base of the pad. A unit has to forfeit its shooting phase to press the
button. A button only can only be pressed if no enemy unit is in contact
with another button.
The closed pad convers a 4+ cover save to models on the top of the pad.
- Skimmers can land on the pad regaredless of the speed they have tarvelled
with and any passengers onboard the skimmer are allowed to disembark.
- The Aigis Defence Line adds +2 to armor saves.
- Space Marine drop pods get a special rule and causes enemy units to pass
a moral test or flee if there is a model within 2" of it on the turn it lands.
And some more general information:
- There are no non-imperial building releases planed in the foreseeable future.
- There is only 1 more terrain piece besides the ones already on the GW
webside thats going to be released: Destroyed rhino in a blasted wood,
release date as yet unkown.
- There will be no bike, mount or mounted version of Khosaro Khan (the new
White Scar Space Marine character)
- There be a special release available only during September. No further
information on details was given - not even which game system its for-
except we should expect it to be something huge (and therefore
expensive )
